As Brandon demonstrates in the video, pruning isn’t just about making the vineyard look tidy. It involves:

  1. Selection: Identifying the strongest “canes” (the branches from the previous year) to keep for the new season.

  2. Balance: Ensuring the vine has enough buds to produce a harvest, but not so many that the grapes lose their flavor concentration.

  3. Future-Proofing: Setting the structure of the vine so it can withstand Maryland’s unpredictable weather.

Every snip is a decision for the future.

Planning a winter visit? Stop by our tasting room to warm up with a glass of our Reserve Chardonnay or a heated Mulled Wine. While you’re here, look out at the vines—you might just see Brandon and the team out there, crafting the next great vintage, one snip at a time.
