Bourbon Barrel Aged Retriever Red 2025

50 years ago, the Aellen family was just beginning to learn the art of winemaking. What started as a dream quickly became a reality, and as the vineyards began to flourish, they needed barrels to age their wines. Enter local distiller, A. Smith Bowman Distillery, whose repurposed bourbon barrels became the very first barrels used at Linganore.

Over the years, we’ve worked with many different types of barrels while continuing to craft wines that honor Maryland tradition. But for our 50th anniversary, we’re returning to our roots.

Our limited-edition Bourbon Barrel Aged Blackberry and Retriever Red wines are a bold expression of that legacy. Using repurposed bourbon barrels sourced from our original distiller, we finished two of our signature wines in the same style barrels that helped shape Linganore’s earliest vintages — creating added depth, warmth, and complexity in every sip.

This special edition off-dry red blend, aged in bourbon barrels, honors the Chesapeake Bay Retrievers that were part of the vineyard’s early days. Notes of dark berry fruit, oak, and smooth tannins make it bold yet approachable.
