Pour yourself a glass of excitement! We’re thrilled to unveil our new look and toast to a fresh beginning with our amazing Wine Club members. Sip, savor, and join us on this journey as we raise a glass to a reimagined experience that’s as bold and flavorful as our wines. Cheers to the new us – let the celebration begin!
What is your favorite thing about working at Linganore Winecellars?
I adore the ambiance and the colleagues I work with. Every person who joins the workplace is enthusiastic and delighted to be a part of an outstanding company that prioritizes its employees and delivers a high-quality product.
Being able to finish work and share moments savoring a glass of wine with coworkers who appreciate being part of an excellent team truly makes a significant impact!
What is your favorite Linganore wine?
Black Raven is my favorite wine. It’s a semi-sweet red wine that is very well-balanced. It’s the perfect go-to wine for parties and to give as a gift because it’s not too sweet and not too dry. It can easily be enjoyed by people who like sweet or dry wines. I love it!
What meal do you enjoy it with?
I will drink Black Raven with dinners featuring pork and red meats, or with cheese and meat appetizers. It’s also great for sipping after dinner while nibbling on a piece of dark chocolate.
What’s the last occasion that you drank it?
I last had this wine while celebrating New Year’s Eve.

]]> As I alluded to in the previous paragraph, ensuring that you and your partner have easy access to important information will be key to alleviating stress throughout your planning process. In the case of your wedding email, there are some easy steps you can take that will enhance your ability to stay on the same page with your partner. You two will likely receive hundreds of emails and it will be in your best interest to keep those messages as visible as possible within your wedding Gmail account. For starters, try to flag important emails if you are unsure if your partner has read them. If not, do not be surprised if your fiancĂ© appears confused when you bring up the email over dinner. I also usually cc both of our main emails on messages we send out as we tend to check those more often. Â
To reiterate, the sheer number of emails you receive will likely astound you. If you have ever asked yourself, “Did I respond to that?” This advice is for you! Firstly, I advise against joining any email lists with your wedding email. If you must join mailing lists for those promo codes, just use your main.
Â
More importantly, I would highly recommend assigning labels to organize your inbox. Try to keep these label categories specific, at the very least your wedding vendors, venue, and caterer should have categories of their own. Taking these preemptive steps will allow you to find exactly what you are looking for in seconds. If you paint your labels in too broad of strokes, the process of finding the exact thread you want will be equally as difficult as not having labels at all. You can see some examples of recommended labels below. Â
Your Google account is useful for more than emails! All the files you receive in your inbox will automatically upload to your drive. That includes all your invoices and contracts. It is quite a relief to have everything you need in the same place. The same goes for the calendar function which we have found to be essential for keeping track of appointments and deadlines. Moreover, it is nice to store your wedding documents, like your guest list, in the same fashion. Important documentation, such as your guest lists and reception plans can be edited on the fly, a godsend when you are out of town and get a call from a wedding vendor or your wedding venue. Â
Â
Â
I hope this blog is persuasive enough to get you on your way to setting up your wedding google account. Rest assured that I will never advocate for anything that I have not done or experienced. I promise this step will be tremendously helpful to you and your partner. As always, if you ever have a quandary that you need help with, we are always here to help! Â

]]>The post Chris’ Tip Jar – A Guide to Tipping Your On-Site Wedding Vendors appeared first on Linganore Wines.
]]>Yes, you have paid your wedding vendors a tremendous amount already, but it is in good taste to tack on a bit extra for their efforts on the day of your wedding. It is not a trivial expense, but you can factor gratuity into your budget with a bit of direction. Thankfully, our winery is here to help!
Below is a breakdown of tipping etiquette for all the essential Wedding Vendors. We hope that it will be helpful for your budgeting needs!
Photographers:
Visit TLIC Media, one of our preferred partners for wedding photography and videography.
Photographers will get a lot of cardio on wedding day capturing those wonderful candid and family photos that turn into a lifetime of memories. Considering that those memories are priceless, it would be ideal to provide a little extra on top of creating a literal heirloom. 5-10% of their fee is more than enough to show your appreciation. Tipping doesn’t always mean cash. A great bottle of wine from our cellar can work just as well.Â
Â
Â
RCC Weddings and Events is a preferred wedding vendor for event coordination.
The service of being a day-of-coordinator, while immensely fulfilling, is a taxing position. It takes a balance of keeping the night on track without ruining the fun. An accomplishment such as this deserves a fulfilling award. Common practice is to tip $100-$200 for the lead wedding coordinator.
Hair & Makeup:
The I Do Glam Crew is one of our preferred wedding vendors for all of your glam needs.
You would like to look your best on the day of your wedding. If you have a hair and makeup artist at your disposal, they will be essential to making that happen. For your artist, it will be a day of holding extremely hot things , including yourselves of course, for a long period of time. Show some love by tipping them at least 20% for your wedding day glow up!
The Bachelor Boys Band is one of our preferred wedding vendors for good vibes all night long.
DJs do a lot more than press play. Like wedding coordinators, they are essential in maintaining the flow of the evening. All of your special moments from grand entrances to toasts, will need someone to announce them. Providing these services and impeccable vibes entitles them to a touch more above their fee. We suggest tipping at least $200 given the work necessary to create a setlist and stick to the cues that the couple sets out for them. In the case of a band, typically allow for $25-$50 for each musician.
Your venue staff will have a lot on their plate, including service, bartending, cleaning and more than anything else, ensuring your guests have a fun and safe time. Event staff may be immune to long hours, but a 10-hour day on your feet is a 10-hour day on your feet. We recommend a tip of 20% to be divided amongst the staff unless it’s been covered in your venue fees. Even if the venue contract includes wedding staff gratuity if there are staff members that go above your expectations an additional tip or gift card can show how much they’re appreciated.Â
We recommend Renaissance Chef for tasty menu items and customizations during your wedding reception.Â
Food is pretty much the most important aspect of your wedding. It is the subject that everyone will be talking about during the event and in the weeks to come. Serving dinner to 120 plus people, as you might imagine, is a logistical nightmare, especially if it is a plated meal. Given all this, you would like to make sure that the catering staff is adequately compensated for their time. Typically, this is included in your food bill, but it never hurts to double check. Â If not, 18-22% of the food cost should be paid out amongst the Catering Staff.
We hope that this blog helps with your budgeting concerns going forward, remember to take a second look at your Wedding day contracts with your wedding vendors before giving an additional tip. If you ever have a question, we are just a phone call away

]]>The post Chris’ Tip Jar – Selecting your Wedding Photographer appeared first on Linganore Wines.
]]>I am currently planning my wedding and figured a blog could be helpful to share our thought process when deciding on our photographer. I will talk a bit about our list of priorities and how our choice of photographer fits them like a glove!
My fiancé and I knew we wanted two photographers but did not need both for the entire afternoon. Many studios will offer 8+hr packages that can cost quite a bit extra. Not that photographers are typically inexpensive, but thankfully booked a 4.5-hour block with the second shooter because we cared more about getting all the angles for the ceremony than the reception. We were able to knock off about a thousand dollars by going this route and couldn’t be more thankful to our photographer for their flexibility. It is easy to start contracting bells and whistles like videography, extra style, and detail shots. Ask yourself beforehand, do you need all that? Will you be watching your wedding video every anniversary? Or will it sit in its case for the next few decades? It is all about you, so do not feel the need to accept a cookie-cutter package with services you don’t need or want and save some of your budgets for your other vendors.
After running through about a dozen Instagram pages and about half that in Zoom meetings, we booked a photographer with an aesthetic we liked and cliqued with personality-wise. They understood our vision and were willing to work with us to create a tailored fit. Sure, it might have helped that I had worked with this photographer in the past, but it will be essential for you to have a good rapport with your photographer. You will spend much of your wedding day with your photographer, with them telling you what to do. You and your fiancé should like them enough to avoid unsavory thoughts erupting before your first dance. If you are truly unsure, see if you can book just an engagement shoot with your top photographer. Engagement shoots are way less expensive than wedding services and you’ll get to see if you and your fiancé work well with the photographer.
Of course, everyone has different budgets and priorities, so please do not take my words as gospel. They are not a recommendation nor a condemnation of any list of services. Rather my words are meant to illustrate a thought process for you to think about. Of course, if you need help deciding between vendors, I am always here to lend a hand!

]]>We can completely understand not wanting to go through hours of hair and makeup to get an involuntary perm the moment you leave the ready room. Not to mention that wedding attire does not tend to be conducive to beating the heat. However, if you time your ceremony with the weather in mind and select your wedding day fits accordingly, the heat will be less of a factor.
A unique benefit to holding your wedding at Linganore is selecting your ceremony time, provided that your reception will end by 10:00 PM. You can plan your ceremony for a more comfortable portion of the day. We are huge fans of sunset ceremonies. If you plan for that, most of your wedding will take place during the evening, and you can fully enjoy our grounds and outdoor facilities.
The real reason we love summer weddings so much here at Linganore is the beauty of the grounds during the hotter months. For one, the sunsets are magnificent. Our second reason is that the end of summer is the start of harvest, and our vineyard will be in full canopy. The vines will provide a jaw-dropping background for your ceremony and photoshoots.
Finally, a shameless plug! With the purchase of the Sangria Bar Package, you will gain free use of our open-air pavilion! Typically, this space has a 55-degree cut-off, but that should not come into play during the summer, even in Maryland. The Sangria Hour also adds a full hour to your event, giving you and your partner some breathing room while you are out taking pictures post-ceremony.
In short, there are plenty of reasons to hold your wedding here during the summer. We hope to see you then! If you are interested in a tour of our venue or booking an event or wedding at Linganore, please email our director of private events, Mary Beth Davis, at marybeth@linganorewines.com.

]]>The post Chris’ Tip Jar – A Guide to Toasts appeared first on Linganore Wines.
]]>Although each couple and their wedding days are one of a kind in our eyes, we must concede that there are many common threads most weddings share, few as ubiquitous as toasts from loved ones. Therefore, I thought it might be prudent to share some tips with potential toastmasters to ensure that their speeches are successful!
To preface this allegedly comprehensive guide I will begin by stating the obvious; Speakers, you have been tasked with a tremendous responsibility and it should be approached as such. There are certain rules associated with wedding toasts and it would behoove you to take the time to research and review them prior to beginning the writing process. There are numerous resources across the web that are eager to help you along the way, such as ToastMasters and WeddingWire.
Most of us are not politicians or public speakers, and the gift of oration is not a common talent. That said, pretty much anyone can give a successful wedding speech. Below are a few tips and tricks that I have found to promote smooth sailing during the toast portion of any wedding day! In the sections below, we will attempt to describe the particulars of a great toast that should be observed when writing your own.
Fortunately, these guidelines are simple and focus on common sense. Our most important tip is to, above all else, be yourself! There is plenty of room for that within the so-called rules of wedding toasts, and your personality is what people want to hear when you speak. It is why the couple chose you for your position in the wedding party, and it is why they would like you to speak. With that said, there are a few things that you should pay attention to when writing and performing your toast
Technically speaking, a toast should begin by lifting your glass by the stem and stating, ‘I would like to propose a toast.’ There is room for interpretation here, but you will want to have the guests’ attention before speaking. For things to avoid, although commonplace at weddings, you should avoid telling embarrassing stories or alluding to them. It is bad form to humiliate the couple or cast doubt on their character on their wedding day. Those tales of youthful shenanigans should stay in the friendship vault where they belong, no matter how entertaining they may be. On the same tack, since there will be people of all ages and moral compasses present, it is best to avoid using foul language. Whether it is for comedic effect or emphasis, it is rarely necessary to take the risk.
A toast should typically have an opening, body, and conclusion. Not everyone at the wedding will know you, so you should introduce yourself and your relationship to the couple during the introductory portion of the toast.
For the body, get personal and be creative. It is ill-advised to stick to a formula or to lean into clichés. Most people have heard every marriage joke under the sun, and your expert delivery will not make them any less stale. Instead, speak about the couple, illustrate why the newlyweds are important to you, and how much of an honor it is to be given the opportunity to speak at their wedding. You do not need to be a comedy writer to pull that off.
Despite these tips, the most crucial part of a toast will be preparation and practice. Rehearse with friends and time it. Three minutes is difficult to visualize on a page, so repetitive rehearsal will allow you to edit down your toast. Most toasts should only last 3-4 minutes maximum. Although you may be nervous, try to stay on topic. Remember the toast is not about you.
In conclusion, the art of the perfect wedding toast may seem nebulous, but it really isn’t all that complicated. There is not one right way to make a wedding toast however, there are many wrong ways. It is my hope that at least some of these tips and sources will be helpful to you during the speech writing process. Our private events team is also happy to help out any of our couples and toastmasters should they need it ;). For more wedding day tips and resources, keep an eye on this page as well as our Instagram (@weddingsatlinganore). Good luck!

]]>Add oil, onions and a pinch of salt in a large skillet over medium heat. Let onions cook down until soft, not browned. Add minced garlic, cook for approximately 30 seconds more.
Add mushrooms, cook for two minutes and add a 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Continue cooking until mushrooms become tender and the liquid evaporates.Â
Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Salt the water generously. Cook pasta until al dente. Before draining pasta, reserve a cup of pasta water.
Add rosemary, thyme, red pepper flakes, vinegar, pinch of chopped parsley and butter to mushrooms. Add Seventh and 1/3 cup of pasta water. Stir over medium heat until the mixture becomes saucy. Add pasta to the pan and toss gently. If it seems too dry add more pasta water. Season to taste.
Grate fresh Reggiano Parmigiano and sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley.
Enjoy! Snap a photo and tag us on Facebook or Instagram for a chance to be featured on our page.
Our Seventh is reminiscent of a berry patch: fresh strawberries, ripe raspberries and hints of luscious blackberries. A subtle touch of sweetness perfectly complements the crisp acidity in this refreshing rosé.
